How do I know what size dog door to install?

How do I know what size dog door to install into my home? Good question. We manufacture to sizes of dog doors. Small dog doors have a pet flap opening that is 6 x 10 (inches). Large dog doors have a pet flap opening of 11 x 17. There are many methods other manufacturers suggest you use to determine the appropriate size pet door to install for your dog. Some suggest using the dog breed to determine the right size dog door and others simply base it on your dogs weight. Those can be very vague barometers to use so be careful when using either of those methods.

Do you need a dog door that works in extremely cold weather?

Are you looking for a dog door that works well in the cold weather. Do you live in Canada or the the Midwest and need a pet door that can withstand extreme temperatures and stop the cold drafts from coming inside? Do you currently own a dog door with a plastic flap that curls up when the temperature drops below freezing? My Dad installed a pet door 3 years ago and the pet flap warped allowing massive amounts of cold air into the home. To add insult to the problem the dogs began chewing the warped flap. What a mess!

How do I install a pet door into a basement window?

Many people install pet doors directly into a wall or exterior door. This seems to be the norm. Pet doors are even installed directly into sliding patio doors and even sewn directly into the patio screen door. Another place to install a pet door is directly into your basement window.

Is there a suggested height of installation for a wall mount pet door?

Posted by b dl in Untagged

b dl

Yes there is a suggested height of installation for a wall mount pet door. At the point where the the flap flexes please allow at least 1 inch clearance higher than the highest point of your dogs back. This should allow your dog to step without crouching which is harder for dogs to do as they get older.
